Dive in and explore what's happening in our community!

On July 12th while bringing tasty cheese to the people of Northern California, we received some shocking news: our mini VW cheese sampling buses had been stolen in the Sacramento area, along with their trailer and the Daddy Loaf truck which hauls the buses from city to city. Two days later, we learned that the trailer and Daddy Loaf truck had been recovered by police, but were severely burned. We were devastated to hear this news, but the Manteca Police remained hopeful that they’d be able to find our sweet little buses. Thankfully, we were notified by the authorities late on Monday night that our three Baby Loaf buses had been found in near-perfect condition!

We could not be happier to have our buses back! We’re so incredibly thankful for the efforts of the police and investigators who worked tirelessly over the past few days to recover our buses, as well as our amazing loyal fans and media outlets who helped spread the word and collect helpful tips. Our buses are on their way back to Oregon, and will be resting and recovering from a very traumatic few days. Thanks again for all of your support the past few days – we have the best fans in the world!

Lots of loaf,
The Tillamook Team

I am very glad to hear the great news that they have been found. I love VW's and had the chance to see one close up a couple years ago in Modesto, CA. That is one awesome ride.

I am glad you got your little buses back. I remember seeing them here in Katy, TX at my local HEB. I thought they were soooo cute! :)

Hi, Anchoret.

Thank you! I'm so happy to hear that you had the chance to see our little buses at your local grocery store! Hopefully you were able to sample some cheese too! We really appreciate your support, and we’re so grateful that you took the time to share your concern for our buses with us! We're very happy to have them home safe :)

Was anyone arrested/ investigated for this heinous crime? I think Karma/ the Darwin Theory will get them any way. Anyone dumb enough to steal bright orange buses representing a beloved company like Tillamook surely won't last long!

We lived in central Ca and my husband's 69 Ford Step Side fully restored was stolen. We were never able to recover it. So I feel your pain about the burnt Daddy Loaf Truck but am so glad you got the buses back!!! If they ever come by UT, I'll be sure and check them out. Again so glad you were able to recover a lot of your loss!!!

I am very happy to hear that you got the busses back! My husband & I were fortunate enough to see them up close at the Grilled Cheese Invitational a few years ago. They are so adorable, you can't help but love them!

Hooray for the safe return of the "Baby Loaf" buses!

I couldn't believe how many people were aware of their theft and were hoping against the odds for their safe return. So glad they're home, safe and sound -- although I do feel sorry for the damage to "Daddy Loaf." Please wish him a speedy recovery/restoration and pat the babies for us with a, "There, there; you're okay now."

July 31st, 2014 at 2:39 pm

Wow. Isn't it sad that some folks fail to respect the property of others. And what cute property!

We will be visiting the Tillamook Cheese Factory around September10.

Will those "Babies" be on display?

So glad our buses are coming"home". I am touched to see how many love them. I have family in California who visit and we always bring them to Tillamook and the cheese factory. I told them no more samples for California until we get our Baby Loafs back. lol Thank you to all who helped.

I am so sorry to hear about you're Fleet, but very happy you now have them back. I was able to visit your Plant 3 years ago as my Sister was celebrating a Birthday. I came up from Kansas City, Mo to Seattle then on to Cannon Beach. I had a great time!!!

I was born right in Tillamook in 1944, in the old Tillamook Hospital on the corner of Fourth & I am ALWAYS interested in any Tillamook County happenings! It will forever hold center-stage within my heart. I was not aware that the buses had been Shanghai'd, but am so-o-o glad to hear they're Coming Home! They are such good little ambassadors for the wonderful Tillamook Cheese products. TILLAMOOK ROCKS!!! Happy Day!

It sounds like the Great Cheese Wars of 2014 are getting heated. I guess those "California Cheese" fans are taking things just a bit too seriously. Jealously is a terrible thing. Everyone knows there's only 2 types of cheese worth eating and talking about. Tillamook and Wisconsin and in that order!

So sad that had to happen in CA.:'( . My family in Oregon told me to "Follow the yellow buses home" :-) !!!!!

I'm so happy to hear that you got your buses back, but it's a shame about the truck and trailer. I live just a few miles from where the truck and trailer were found, and I have to say it's an embarrassment to our community. As someone who vacations annually on the Oregon Coast (Pacific City), I want to tell you how much I enjoy visiting your factory each year, as well as how saddened I was by these unfortunate events. I’d also like to thank you for not holding a grudge against the people of Northern California, just because of the actions of some greedy and selfish individuals. Thank you for your wonderful products!

My wife and I were on it immediately. Friends called from Tillamook and told me to get out on I 5 and look for those buses. Well, I was over to the west a little too far but we were close when we got to Crows Landing.
I was wondering what event the buses were headed to be on display. Was it the Stanislaus County Fair? Manteca is about an hour and a half from where we live in Hollister, CA Saw the buses in the parking lot of Nob Hill Grocery in Hollister about a month ago. Wow!

Glad to see the busses are back!! Deliciousness is my memory when I first meet at HEB Plus in San Antonio,TX hope to see the busses in the Rio Grande Valley area soon!!

July 31st, 2014 at 3:19 pm

I had just had the opportunity to see one of your baby buses with my son at our local Safeway here in Manteca just a few weeks before the theft. My son was completely enthralled with the bus -- not to mention the free ice cream you guys were handing out! From all of us Tillamook product lovers here in Manteca, CA, we are so sorry that your prized mini-vehicles were stolen here in our hometown, and are thrilled that they were recovered so quickly!

July 31st, 2014 at 3:31 pm

I'm so glad you got the busses back, and I am deeply embarrassed that this happened in my city. I hope this doesn't result in Tillamook not coming back to Sacramento. I would be very sad.

Glad to hear the buses are safe and sound, but I must admit I was tempted to kidnap one when y'all visited Spring Branch/Bulverde TX.

Hi, hoping to get cheese coupon from you soon towards purchase. Just bought your sour cream and love it. So much tastier than others. Thanks

July 31st, 2014 at 4:24 pm

Just learned the story and (mostly) exciting outcome for the cheese fleet. A horrible experience will not last with the love they return to. We became Tillamook fans after visiting and taste testing in Petaluma, CA a few years ago. We were blessed by the little buses then and are pleased they will continue to bless others they meet in the future! God bless all of you Tillamook employees and fans. :-)

I was devastated to hear that they were stolen and I feared what would become of them. They symbolize so many things that are special to me (no, really!): VW buses (I restored and now drive one that was passed on to me by my beloved grandfather), the town of Tillamook, Oregon (I was born there), and CHEESE (my favorite food). I could not think of a more fitting symbol for me personally than these little orange buses. So happy to hear they are in good shape.

July 31st, 2014 at 4:29 pm

Just started receiving your emails n had no idea that you had baby loaf touring trucks let alone they had gone missing! Glad to hear they've returned to the barn! Do you think they might come to Ojai, California?

Happy they caught the low energy types that stole the smile off all of our faces when read the mini loafs had been stolen.

When heard on the news that Daddy Loaf had been burned to the ground, was fearful that the Buses might have met a similar fate or possibly were in a shipping container and headed over seas.

As I had just seen the Buses and visited with the Fun People passing out samples and Valuable Coupons at my local Safeway, Branham and Snell, the story of the theft hit closer to home.

My VW friends and us Meyers Manx Dune Buggy owners were on the watch for the Mini Buses, keeping ear open for word of any fool trying to sell em or bragging about knowing where they were.

Again, glad they are back home ... it is a shame that low energy types have to ruin the fun and smiles on the faces of everyone that sees these little guys.

Too bad they set fire to the Daddy Loaf, means for a while, no transport vehicle for you to share the Mini Buses with your friends and fans.

Love the Cheese, Love the Ice Cream !
I am lactose intolerent ... High Quality, tasty Tillamook makes it worth the ride .

Keep making people smile, we enjoy seeing the Mini Buses at Car Shows and at Promotional Events at local Supermarkets.

I'd deff be sending the police some free samples! :D

July 31st, 2014 at 4:37 pm

I miss living so close to the Tillamook Cheese factory. Trying to figure a way to get back up to that area. We do have a store in Reno, and some local that sell my favorite Tillamook products. I live in Carson City though and dont get to Reno often. When I do I stock up :-)
So glad the buses came home.

We saw the vans in Sacramento about a week before this tragic event. Even have photos of Daddy Loaf and the trailer that was behind the Raley's on Natomas Blvd. Have we heard why these three idiots took the vans?

I was so shocked to read what had happened to those buses ! And really thankful and happy they had found the three and in fine too. It is terrible that that had happened but I am thankful that no one had been hurt or injured.
many years ago my husband and I lived in Astoria and it was during that time that we discovered how great all of your products that were made in and right there on the spot; also having that wonderful tour and being able to view the cheese being made at the same time was just WONDERFUL! My young son really enjoyed that and getting samples and and especially getting ice cream too!
As a big surprise for me about four years ago my second son and family and the third son invited me on a
trip to Portland because I have always talked so much about all the coast and loved the area so much. You really have expanded and built up everything and it was just THRILLING for me to see all the old and the new both.
Thank you so much for such a wonderful place to visit and see. Every one was so helpful and friendly to all of us.
God Bless you all.

Glad to see the busses are back in business. Tillamook has the greatest cheese and a good promo dept. Got to see one of the vehicles in Orange County earlier this year and I posted it on facebook. .

Thank goodness you got your buses back. I love cheese, I love your cheese, I love your buses. You've got zing.

Lets hope the thieves, are lactose intolerant and get mega cramps every time they eat cheese.

July 31st, 2014 at 5:47 pm

I was glad to hear that your Baby Loaf buses were found and safely headed home, I hope they caught those who took them. They are so cute. I was able to see one and try some different cheeses a few years ago at Macey's in Provo.
Is the Daddy Loaf truck and trailer going to be all right?
Thanks for making great cheese!

July 31st, 2014 at 5:50 pm

I've never had the chance to see your cute buses but was so happy to hear you got them back. I hope the tour will make it to southern AZ sometime soon. You all were in the Phoenix area recently but need to get down to Tucson next.

I just heard that the buses were on a darkly magical adventure. I loved seeing the VW that came to the Safeway in the Mission. Thanks for taking them out to us and Thanks for letting us all know that they are now safely back home in Oregon. Good luck and hope to see them all next time in the near future. The Good Karma I received from you all does indeed work its own magic!!!!

I live in Manteca and had the pleasure of getting my picture taken with one of the mini busses outside of Safeway. I thought it was the cutest thing ever! I was horrified that they had been stolen and worse from Manteca. But grateful for a happy ending. All was not lost :)

I am sad to hear about the stolen bus story but two things, I am glad it didn't happen in Hunting Beach, California and I am so glad they were recovered! Thank you for sharing your beautiful buses and thank you for sharing your "AMAZING" products for the cheeses to the, "I've got to have it for breakfast with some fresh berries" yogurts to the "INCREDIBLE" ice creams! This must be what Heaven taste like ! Keep on making supreme products!

WE do love your PRODUCT (s) and have toured your WONDERFUL CHEESE FACTORY several times!! You Guys have NO Idea how many" Zonies" have received 2#
blocks of TILLAMOOK Cheese in their Christmas Stocking! .........but I digress!

Extremely glad to hear the excellent news and completely appalled by person or people that could disrespect such an awesome team!!! I was graced with the pleasant surprise of the best cheese in the world as I entered Safeway here in Sacramento, so obviously I had to smile and be captured on film while enjoying a small piece of love! Wow, to here about what happened, just hope after such a scary event, the Baby Loafs VW buses can still pass threw Sacramento comfortably! Yet, if not, I, personally will have to come visit anyways as soon as myself and family relocate, well actually, return to Oregon!!! NOT that we will miss living here in Sacramento anyways! But Oregon is and will always be home!

August 4th, 2014 at 2:13 am

Glad they found them! This story was all over the news down here in the SF Bay Area. Sorry to hear of the Daddy Loaf Truck though. Honestly, I'm not sure what the theives thought they could really do with such obviously noticable vehicles? I guess desperate times breed desperate actions. LOL

I am pleased to hear that the busses are back in good Cheese Hands, just where they belong. It is too bad that the others were damaged, but some people are---well, let's just say that there are areas in certain states that do not deserve to have some of the best cheese in the US!
