Before we arrived in Austin we’d heard the hype, a cool, slightly off kilter city with some fantastic food. Lucky for us we were not lead astray! We’ve encountered some crazy concoctions since we’ve arrived, but our favorites have been the classics with a bit of a twist. Here are two of our favorite restaurants we’ve stumbled upon during our journey so far that feature our very own Tillamook Cheese.
Hopdoddy is a burger joint that’s going back to the farm. With all natural ingredients, buns from scratch and a farm to table mentality, all mixed together to create some one of a kind combinations.
Tayler chose the Terlingua, based with an Angus Beef patty and topped with corn fritos, chile con carne and Tillamook Cheddar Cheese! Delicious!Rebecca went a little farther south with the Goodnight burger featuring hickory BBQ sauce, jalapeños and of course Tillamook Medium Cheddar Cheese!Obviously the burgers were so good we cleaned our plates!
A few nights later the team was feeling a bit homesick and was craving more of what Mom might make. The Soup Peddler satisfied our cravings and added its very own spin. They didn’t bring us our soup by bike, but they did entertain us with hoola hoops in their backyard style eating patio.Everyone was greatly satisfied with a grilled Tillamook Cheddar Cheese sandwich and a dipping cup of tomato and basil soup.
The bonus of the night was their fresh juices. Fruits, veggies, herbs and goodness, all squeezed together. It rounded out our ideal food pyramid of a meal.
Both the meal and our juices were comforting and restoring, just as their mission statement claimed it would be. We definitely felt the love and healing they put into their food.
These two restaurants shared some common traits, but couldn’t have been more unique in their interpretations of our favorite meals. They managed all of this and showed their love of Tillamook Cheese. YUM!
We can’t wait to see what else Austin has to offer, we’ve been impressed so far!
