“Spicy” and “Smoothie” aren’t words that you usually see together in a recipe title. Smoothies are sweet, or tropical, maybe even tangy! But spicy? It’s new, exciting and perfect for a Tillamook Test Kitchen: Smoothie Edition!

I love spicy lemonade, (give me some fresh squeeze lemon, a dollop of honey and a sprinkle of cayenne and I’m set!), so I decided it was the perfect inspiration to create the first Tillamook spicy smoothie. I started with one of my favorite Tillamook yogurt flavors, Key Lime, and added a dash of cayenne, some honey and ice.  The result was delicious, but lacking. It needed more flavor and something to bulk it up a bit. To liven things up, I poured some oats and frozen pineapple into the blender, and gave it another whirl. The end result was surprisingly delicious! It had just the right balance of spicy and sweet, and was filling enough to be a meal in a glass.
