This past weekend, Portland hosted one of the coolest food events in the world: Feast Portland. Over the course of three days, food was eaten, chef tricks were learned, tweets were sent, and memories were made! Tillamook couldn’t have been more honored to be a part of the festivities.
We started the week by giving out 6 pairs of tickets to the Sandwich Invitational and Grand Tasting through a Haiku contest through email and Twitter. They were all amazing, but you can read some of our favorites here.
To kick off the weekend, Tillamook participated in the Sandwich Invitational, featuring 15 top chefs, including Paul Qui, Duff Goldman, Tommy Habetz, Nick Wood and winner Adam Sappington! Tillamook made a few funky and delicious sandwiches of our own: Pretzel Crunch (pretzel, peanut butter, bananas, honey and Tillamook Sharp Cheddar), Dark Ginger (dark chocolate, candied ginger and Tillamook Special Reserve Extra Sharp Cheddar) and Berry Waffle (marionberry compote and Tillamook Vintage White Extra Sharp Cheddar on a waffle).While sampling nearly 600 sandwiches to the hungry crowd, we asked attendees to vote for their favorite Tillamook sandwich… and Dark Ginger won! At the Oregon Bounty Grand Tasting, Tillamook served over 4,000 samples of what we fondly call “America’s Best Grilled Cheese.” Using America’s Best Sharp Cheddar and America’s Best Monterey Jack, the sandwich had the sharp bite and an incredible creaminess from the Monterey Jack. Visitors could also grill their faces onto a sandwich using the Tillamook Cheese’wich app at our photo booth!
In addition to these events, we hooked up some lucky folks with a Tillaphone. What is a Tillaphone, you ask? It’s a phone that when used between 11pm and 3am, will get you a delicious Tillamook grilled cheese sandwich delivered to you for free. Chefs, media, and lucky local Portlanders used their phones to order one of three Tillamook sandwiches: the Triple Threat (celebrating our awards at this year’s ACS competition with Tillamook Colby Jack, Vintage White Extra Sharp Cheddar, and Sharp Cheddar), Spicy BBQ (bacon, BBQ sauce, caramelized onions, and Tillamook Sharp Cheddar) and the Dark Ginger from the Sandwich Invitational.
