My favorite thing in my lunchbox was the Bakery Thrift Store Hostess Fruit Pies my Grandmother would buy and put into my lunches.

    Sarah Foreman Says:

We make different types of wraps instead of sandwiches for the kids lunches using tortillas cheese slices, lettuce and different types of lunchmeat. As sides, usually apple slices with peanut butter or mandarin oranges, or another type of fruit. They also take a granola bar or something a little sweet to end their luchtime. They take water bottles to drink or capri sun, since our school participates in the Pouch Brigade. I always write a note for each of my 3 kids, even my oldest who is in 7th grade, though instead of a love note, he gets a riddle that usually spreads through all of his friends trying to figure it out!

I’d like to include/add in my comment that a slice of Tillamook Cheese would have gone well with my Fruit Pie, especially the Apple one :)

We always pack cheese sticks for their lunches!!!!

    Hillary Wallace Says:

I remember my mom leaving us encouraging notes in our lunch boxes when we were in school. Now I pack lunches with notes, cut up fruit, easy to eat snacks (like cheese!), and a healthy drink along side a good sandwich or leftovers. It’s a great feeling to know that my family is being well taken care of at lunch time, even when I’m not there to share it with them!

I loved to have cheese on anything, and I also loved apples! How about an apple a day topped with Tilla- Moos!

    Tamra Phelps Says:

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I got hooked on Tillamook Cheese. I had to have it at 3 in the morning every single day. Nothing else would suffice. When she was in school I would always put a Tilla-Moo in her lunch or in her backpack for a snack during the day. I also included a napkin that I would draw a picture on every morning or put a special message. If she took her lunch in a paper bag I drew a picture on the paper bag. She always knew which one was hers!! So did all the other children! Even now, when we go on road trips, Tilla-Moos are always included in our road snacks. It is a given. We love our Tillamook!

cheese, pickles and crackers along with cantelope and a snack size chocolate bar.

  10. avatar
    Rachael Says:

Spice up the lunchtime routine with Tillamook cheese slices and sliced turkey sandwiched between 100% whole wheat crackers rather than packing a plain, boring old sandwich! The deliciousness of the yummy cheddar (or swiss or Jack or…?) and the fun of the crunch add a little zing to any school lunchbox!

When scuba diving we like to take a large pot with a propaine burner along to make shore lunch. What you do is grade Tillamook cheese in to a vacumm seal boiling bag along with some garlic salt ,Black pepper and a small amount of cream.Drop the bag into the boiling water until melted for a great sauce to put over what ever else you brought to the beach. IE bricolli,Boiled potatoes, or Just some chips to dip.

I let my 10 year old daughter make her lunch, that way I know she will eat it. She likes a cheese stick (or Tilla-moo) some crackers, fruit or yogurt and milk or juice, always put in an icepack to make sure everything is cool and yummy by lunch time. I always had a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch with chips and a cookie and a drink.

  13. avatar
    Tatna Martin Says:

My kids love when they have their Tilla-Moos , crackers, and, turkey for school lunch.

  14. avatar
    Heather McDonald Says:

I love to make bentos for my daughter! It’s a great way to use my creativity. She usually loves riceballs so I’ll make them into fun shapes or designs. I’ve even dyed the rice in different colors depending on what I’m making for the day. I’ll also use tiny cookie cutters to cut her cheese into different shapes, usually flowers. I’ll use a knife to cut a nice square of cheese and then pop in the cookie cutter and tada! I give her both the flower, and the square with a a cutout so nothing is wasted and they both look neat! On occasion I’ll even draw a little note for her. I’ll pick whatever her favorite anime character is for the week and draw a picture based on that. She’s even come home asking if I’ll draw special pictures for a friend who saw hers and wants one too! lol

Some examples of her riceballs and notes:

    Crystal Price Says:

My kiddos are homeschooled, so I don’t pack them a lunch. But we often have Tillamook Cheeses on our sandwiches, salads and treats. Grilled cheese or homemade mac and cheese are their favorites.
Hubby gets a turkey sandwich with Tillamook Cheddar or Swiss w/ carrot sticks and Tillamook Strawberry yogurt or a huge salad (lettuce, kidney/garbanzo beans, beets, mushrooms, etc) with shredded Tillamook Cheddar on top.

  17. avatar
    Diana Warner Says:

Instead of using a ice pack I always freeze tillamook yoguart and by the time they eat it is defrosted. I also make a sandwich with tillamook cheese and use cookie cutters to make cute shapes. You can never forget writing on the napkin something cute so you always no they are thinking of you….

  18. avatar

    Tillamook is good cheese

  19. avatar
    Jessica Norris Says:

At the beginning of the school year, I put a positive, encouraging note in each of the girls lunchboxes, telling them to have a great year.

  20. avatar
    Angela Dicken Says:

My favorite thing was to post the food pyramid on the fridge. I would have them check off what they had eaten in each category each day. They could then make their lunches within those choices!

  21. avatar
    Alina Yurchenko Says:

A sandwitch with turkey, lettuce, tillamook cheese and avacados. Then An apple. Also, a cliff bar and some carrots and fruit like grapes or oranges cut up. :)

  22. avatar
    Betsy Collins Says:

I love Tillamook yogurt with my pumpkin & flax seed granola & fresh blueberries. I also love Tillamook string cheese with cherry tomatoes or nuts for an afternoon snack.

  23. avatar
    Betsy Rafferty Says:

My mom use to make us little sandwhiches with a ritz, small apple slice and a piece of cheddar cheese on top. we also always got animal cookies so we would pretend the ritz sandwiches were little mountains and the animals were climbing them! a snack and a activity in one!

  24. avatar
    Denise H. Says:

I love to make my daughter a sandwich and surprise her from time to time To to this, I use a cookie cutter to make a fun shape and a food coloring gel to write a note or draw a funny face on the sandwich. A cheese sandwich cut out like a pumpkin with a jack-o-lantern, jelly with a heart with my daughter’s name, or a goldfish shape with a smiley facee are all favorites.

  25. avatar
    Carrie James Says:

When I was a kid my mom would pack cheese, an apple and a knife to cut it with. That way the apple wouldn’t turn brown in my lunch pail. If I did that for my child she would be expelled for carrying a weapon! How times have changed!

  26. avatar
    Crystal Walk Says:

I like simply delicious and healthy lunches: Tillamook Medium Cheddar Cheese Tilla-Moos, apple slices, almonds, and dates. Yummm!!!

  27. avatar
    lynne moore Says:

My favorite thing in my lunch box was a bologna and cheese sandwich with pickle relish……..I am one of 8 children and was born in the early 60′s. I didn’t care for peanut butter and jelly, but it was a staple in our house. I hit on something one day that i still eat to this day. I love a thick slice of medium or sharp cheddar cheese with peanut butter spread on top, no bread no crackers yummm. As a grandparent now I love to still eat cheese peanut butter and sliced apples.

  28. avatar
    Dyan Stokes Says:

I love to make sandwhich’s and then take a cookie cutter and cut out the center and depending on which cookie cutter I used weather it be a star, tree, heart I find an encouraging scripture, quote, or I use my own words and write them a little note to make them smile!

  29. avatar
    Jennifer Southard Says:

My favorite kind of lunchbox sandwich is a whole wheat- bologna, cheddar cheese mayo, & sweet relish. My second favorite is whole wheat, cheddar cheese, mayo, tomato with a heaping pile of sprouts. Yummy!!

My daughter likes it when I use cookie cutters on her sandwich!

  31. avatar
    carol larsen Says:

I love Tillamook sharp cheedar cheese sandwiches on toast; they can be heated up in the microwave at work. And the string cheese with apples makes a great dessert.

  32. avatar
    Jared Wickert Says:

I always love when im in Oregon or somewhere that has Cheddar or Pepperjack Tillamook, a nice lunch of wheat thin fiber-selects as mini-sandwiches and some olives.

  33. avatar
    Pam Uffelman Says:

My teenage daughter usually takes a yummy salad. We grill chicken and then cube it up for the week. She takes separate little snack cups of the chicken, cubed Tillamook medium cheddar, cherry tomatoes and a few crackers. Then at school she dumps it all in with her lettuce and puts the dressing on. This way it’s all fresh and not soggy being together all day.

My two younger daughters love homemade kabobs. One will be fruits – cubed melons, pineapples, apple chunks and the other alternating cherry tomatoes and Tillamook cheese chunks. For some reason things taste better when they’re fun and eating anything off a stick is just plain fun.

  34. avatar
    Maxine Davison Says:

Apple, Tilla-moos, pepperoni and crackers – this is a great healthy lunch.

  35. avatar
    Annetta Williams Says:

Mother would make us bean sandwiches so we’d have a hearty vegetarian meal with the fresh fruit, celery/carrot sticks, and an occasional home-made cookie. Mashed beans, pickle relish, mayo, onion, diced egg. Season to taste. We had a lot of these sandwiches over the years; I grew tired of them, but now I enjoy them once in a while.

  36. avatar
    Meranda H Says:

My kids’ favorite lunches are the ones I put my artistic touches on by creating a Bento box. A sandwich cut into a cute shape using a cookie cutter and little cups of rice or grapes or veggies & a little square of cheese to top it off.

  37. avatar
    Marybeth Mank Says:

I like to core and quarter fresh apples. Then, I spread the cut surfaces with peanut butter and put the apple back together; place it in a zip top storage bag and seal it, squeezing as much air out as possible. The apple stays fresh and I get a bit of protein from the apple. YUM!

  38. avatar
    Meagan Paullin Says:

    What’s in our lunchbox??

Well, the kiddo’s in my house {2 little boys, 5 and 7} prefer “bites” of stuff. So, they won’t eat much of a sandwich, but they’ll eat crackers, Tillamook string or moo’s cheese, and lunch meat cut into squares. They love to have dip for it too… So I mix up honey mustard, mayo, and a dash of seasoning salt.

On the side they have baby dill pickles, frozen grape kabobs {alternate green and red grapes on a kabob stick, freeze, serve!} with yogurt to dip, and a cookie :)

  39. avatar
    Jennifer Satter Says:

A whole wheat tortilla filled with a light layer of pesto sauce, shredded Tillamook mozarella, spinach, and roasted red bell pepper. For an Italian wrap of goodness.

  40. avatar
    Cora Martin Says:

I freeze my yogurt so by the time I have lunch it’s thawed & cold. I know it sounds odd but it works like a charm.

  41. avatar
    Robo Says:

When I was a kid, I think I was very happy to find that my mom threw in Kraft cheese and crackers (with the little red stick to spread the cheese with). I would never eat that now! I would much rather eat Tillamook!

  42. avatar
    louise brown Says:

    oranges and granola

  43. avatar
    Kelley Gallaway Says:

I make my daughter a sandwich for school everyday, her favorite is bologna and Tillamook chedder. She loves having a fruit like bannana, apple or orange, and yogurt. I try to make her a healthy and tasty meal for her to eat for lunch during the day.

  44. avatar
    Teresa Fleming Says:

I’ve found that it is less important to my boys “what” the food is – it’s more about the presentation. My guess is that lunch time is somewhat of a continuation of show and tell? If the lunch looks cool then it’s a hit! So I use this to my advantage and find some kid-cool ways to feed them well. Ants on a log is always a favorite (raisins on a peanut butter filled celery stalk)! And drawing something onto the cheese with mustard… then when they lift the bread it’s always a surprise picture!

  45. avatar
    Lynn Attison Says:

I love a cheese-stick or two, a piece of fruit. With summer on, we are indulging in berries and cantaloupe. Then add turkey on whole-grain bread with lite-mayo and mustard, lettuce and tomato. A bottle of water (not PURCHASED bottled water, our own bottle and filtered tap water) and a bottle of fruit juice.

  46. avatar
    Lisa Caruthers Says:

My favorite thing to put in a lunchbox is apple slices with cheese. Green apple goes great with pepperjack cheese and cheddar goes great with red apples. Back when I was a kid I enjoyed saltine crackers with American cheese slices. Didn’t have Tillamook back then, but I bet it would have been better with it.

  47. avatar
    Maddie Gilliland Says:

My key to a healthy lunchbox has always been planning ahead!
Instead of rushing around in the morning, grabbing random (and possibly unhealthy) bags of snack for lunch, I make sure I pack the night before.

Mom always encouraged my siblings and I to prepare a sandwich with meat (for protein), cheese (for calcium), tomatoes and lettuce (servings of fruit), and mustard (less calories than mayonnaise).

The key about the rest of the lunch was that she would freeze water bottles and let us take them (we always thought they looked and were cooler than the other kid’s cans of soda and juice boxes because the cold water was so refreshing, and the melting ice- fascinating).

The last thing was instead of chips, we got to pick our fruit to go with the sandwich (and there was always a huge selection of fruit to choose from at home). Apples, peaches, pears, watermelon, plums, bananas- nothing tastes better or makes you feel more energetic than a good, fresh fruit.

    Jeffrey Stella Says:

I pack turkey or ham and Tillamook Medium Cheddar slices on wheat with mayo and mustard, a bag of Sun Chips, either a bag of peanuts or a bag of beef jerky, fruit, a 100% juice box, and to top it all off and keep everything cold, a frozen gogurt.

The kids actually love it and have made a smooth transition from enriched white bread and “American” cheese to wheat bread and real Tillamook cheese.

They all love their Tillamook, and would jump at having Tilla-Moos in their lunches.

  49. avatar
    Jaime Giancola Says:

I always have an apple in my lunchbox…They are nutritious and filling!

  50. avatar
    Heidi Brady Says:

We make different kinds of wraps for our kids since they prefer those over PB&J. It’s fun to cut them into pinwheels so they are bite-sized perfectly for little mouths.
My kids love fresh mango more than candy, so we cut up mango and put it in little containers for them as their dessert.
When we do sandwiches, it’s fun to cut the sandwich using a large heart-shaped cookie cutter—that way they get a little extra love from Mom while they’re away at school.
Tilla-Moos are our all-time favorite lunchbox addition. They are the perfect size, perfect name and perfect cheese. Thank you for making Tilla-Moos!

  51. avatar
    Katie Wilcox Says:

My favorite thing was my mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies. They were so soft on the inside and crusty on the bottom. It was always a special treat to see. So I’ve carried on the tradition with my son who has started kindergarten this year.

  52. avatar
    Bryn Barton Says:

My daily lunch varies but one thing never missing-is cheese, especially my favorite Tillamook extra sharp! I generally pack Tilla-moos and Almonds for my snack and for lunch either pita/flat bread with hummus and filled with veggies of all types, flavors and variety as well as, you guessed it, Tillamook Extra Sharp either making a fresh veggie pita or wrap or a melted pita/wrap. I also enjoy the extra sharp melted on a black bean burger, easy to do in two minutes on a morningstar burger with Tillamook cheese in the micro!

  53. avatar
Lilian Hurn-Súper Baratísimo o Gratis. Says:

My mom used to include a boiled eggs, apple and juice. But when mom was on travel trip my dad used to include popcorn, apple and chocolate. :) I just have to smile for my dad. (this was when i was 5 o 6 study at Lima PERU)

  54. avatar
    Ross Remenak Says:

I always appreciated cheese and green grapes when they were in season.

  55. avatar
    Elise Pontes Says:

    I try to always have variety in my and my kids lunches. Some dairy, some fruit/veggies, some protein and WHOLE grains. Tillamook makes AMAZING cheese sandwiches!! Tilla-moos are the perfect snack and I love that they are so convenient to slip into a kids lunch bag {or my purse:)}

  56. avatar
    Christina Adams Says:

We always had bite sized snacks, including cheese, celery sticks, and carrot sticks. We didn’t have single serve cheese. Mom had to cut the slices for us and they were so good! I’m an avid Tillamook fan and have been known to drive 5 hours to the factory store several times a summer just to get my Tillamook cheese, beef stick and ice cream fix. Love it!

  57. avatar
    Darcy Says:

I like to make wraps on whole grain tortillas, flavored cream cheese, veggies, turkey and a cheese stick in the middle ! Yum !

  58. avatar
    Barbara Bibel Says:

An avocado, lettuce, tomato, and cheese sandwich on whole grain bread is my favorite lunchbox item. Add some carrots, a piece of fruit, and a cookie and you have a lovely meal. Bring along a thermos of mile and put a cold pack in the lunchbox to keep everything fresh.

  59. avatar
    Carrie Says:

Today was the first day of kindergarten for my daughter, I made her a lunchable with rolled up turkey, Tillamook cheddar cheese cut in sticks, cucumbers, carrots and a chocolate chip cookie and some frozen grapes. My other daughter who started preschool had a bowl of tuna salad with tomatoes, some crackers, frozen grapes and chocolate chip cookie.
For me, I loved my mom’s tuna and only hers because she put sweet pickles in it.

  60. avatar
    Jaimie Says:

My son LOVES cheese! He LOVES, LOVES cheese!! It really doesn’t matter what is in his lunch as long as somewhere in there cheese is there! :o)

  61. avatar
    Shondra Russell Says:

My favorite lunches for my son (and HIS favorites too) always include Tillamook! No joke… he won’t eat ANY other brand of cheese. And I can’t blame him! :-)

One of my favorite things to pack him is what we call a “pretzel roll”. I take a few slices of deli turkey, some Tillamook cheese (cheddar is his favorite, but sometimes we switch it up), roll it up, and “secure” it with a pretzel stick. He loves them and I love how healthy it is.

  62. avatar
    Felice Bogus Says:

DIY Burritos! A flour tortilla, refried beans, and a hefty handful of grated Tillamook. Pop it in the class microwave for a half minute and you get a wam, melty lunch and one really grateful kid. Add fruit (cut into pieces for those sensitive-teeth sufferers) and a low sugar yogurt drink and you’ve got a Little Monster all fueled up and ready to make it to the end of the school day.

  63. avatar
    Jaimie Fournier Says:

I love creative lunches. One of my favorite ideas is to slice Tillamook cheese into sticks and then make a fence out of cheese sticks and pretzels. Then you can put your sandwich inside, or your broccoli trees….whatever you would like!

  64. avatar
    J.J. Ordway Says:

My Mom always slipped love-notes into my lunch each day. You never knew where it would be…rolled up in my carrots on orange paper, between my Tillamook cheese slices INSIDE my sandwich…it was a mystery! It felt good to know that she remembered important stuff that was going on in my world. “You’ll do great on your math test today! Love, Mom”
Monday, my daughter starts her first day of Kindergarten and I plan on carrying on the tradition my Mom started 33 years ago. It was more than just a note, it was a reminder how much she cared. Much like how much Tillamook cares when they make the best cheese and ice cream I know of! Just hold back to urge to stick a love note in my Chocolate PB ice cream!
    I love you too!

  65. avatar
    Katie R Says:

My favorite food in my lunchbox as a kid was the treats i snuck in there!!! From cookies to cheese crackers! Nowadays my healthy lunch treats are veggies and hummus, granola mix, and of course tilla-moos! I try and eat tillamook cheese at least once a day to help with my calcium intake as a woman and as a pregnant mother! Thank you for an outstanding product that continues to make me snub all other cheeses! :)

  66. avatar
    Patrice Stroup Says:

Tillamook cheese is our favorite! Kids love a bologna sandwich with Tillamook cheddar. Always add a fruit and maybe some carrot sticks too. : )

  67. avatar
    Bryan tuttle Says:

I usually have a sandwich with peppered turkey on wheat bread lettuce and tillamook sharp cheddar cheese yum! As for the sides I put in usually seasonal fruits but lately it’s been cut up strawberries.

  68. avatar
    Ellen Says:

The kids always get some fresh veg from the garden, homemade hummus and CHEESE! YUMMY!

  69. avatar
    Shawnda Hicks Says:

My favorite thing in my Dukes of Hazzard lunchbox was the “love note” my mom would write to me on my lunch napkin.

  70. avatar
    Liza Starr Lilly Says:

I pack my kids’ lunches according to the old 4 food groups. They always have a protein like a hard boiled egg or nuts, a carb: whole grain bread or crackers, a calcium: Tillamook cheese or yogurt, and both a fruit and a vegetable each and every day. Once in a while they get an organic juice box for a special occasion, but usually they are served water by their teachers. I only want the best for my kids!

  71. avatar
    kimberly clark Says:

we always enjoyed field trip lunches with grandma cookies and Tillamook cheese sandwiches. We normally had to eat school lunches yuck.

  72. avatar

  73. avatar
    jennifer Arnold Says:

I wake up every morning to make my husband and my13yr old daughter lunch before they head out. Listen y’all being from the south most stuff served isn’t always healthy lol. On every sandwich I make it loaded with mayo, mostly bologna, and the best of all TIllamock cheese. It could be block cheddar sometimes it’s sliced pepper jack. Around we are picky about our cheese!.

  74. avatar
    valerie Says:

School lunch is big deal for little people. My first grader loves it when I slice a piece of her favorite cheddar Tillamook cheese and then use fun cookie cutters to make a design out of it. The funny part is that her classmates will occasionally ask her where her mom buys cheese like that.

  75. avatar
    Nicole Salisbury Says:

When I pack my sons lunch, i like to encourage him to active in the participation because then he is more likely to eat it. being the mother of a child with special needs presents different dietary needs and I want my child to be able to pack, unpack, and consume his lunch with little assistance. Usually we include a sandwich, but he loves the individual cheeses, so that, some crackers, and lunch meat usually go in. knowing that I can provide a healthy lunch without preservatives of those “boxed” cheese and crackers, is useful. We usually put in a bottle of water (sometimes bribing is necessary), a snack like fruit or sugar free pudding or jello, and all set to go. I think encouraging my children to make their own decisions reminds them that they chose their lunch, therefore they are more likely to eat it.

    Cara Winters Says:

My daughter Grace, is a competitive gymnast. She demands that Tillamook Tilla-moos and a granola bar go with her for her snack break at practice. Since the gymnasts are at their gym for 4 hours non-stop, they need a good fuel source to keep going! The granola gives her energy, while the cheese gives her the protein and vitamins a growing athlete’s body needs! We love Tillamook!!

  80. avatar

tillamook cheese slices and some kind of sliced meat..roll them together for a rollup, grapes or some other friut and trailmix and a drink

  81. avatar
    WENDY WILLIAMS Says:

I loved it when my mom put cheese and crackers in my lunch box. Then when I had a son, I would put string cheese in his lunch box along with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and fruit.
YOU CAN’T GO WRONG WITH TILLAMOOK CHEESE.

  82. avatar
    Kristn Whitaker Says:

I send my kids with the makings for lettuce wraps. Fresh butter crunch lettuce from the garden, slices of tomatoes, sticks of tillamook medium cheddar (the best!!) and ham or turkey cold cuts. They wrap the cheese in the meat, put a tom on top and roll it in the lettuce then dip in honey mustard or ranch. They love it and I love that they are eating so well!

    merrilee deaton Says:

A yummy sandwich will include meat, cheese, and bread, with fruit kabobs, chips or crackers, and a note saying hope your day is perfect and no refocuses (hes in 4th grade) oh and then a little something for desert and top it off with a juice box.

  84. avatar
    Angela Says:

DD loves “kebabs!” – skewered fruit, veggies, or meat & cheese cubes on toothpicks! Pinwheels always go over well too… whole grain tortilla spread with hummus or pesto, layer of sliced cheese and deli meat. then roll the whole thing up and slice it into pinwheels.

  85. avatar
    Steph Says:

We put applesauce cups into the lunch and when we have apples I use an apple slicer and then put a rubber band around the cut apple to keep them from getting brown – the kids love that! I also make homemade “uncrustable” pbj’s and put them in the freezer – they go in the lunch bag frozen and by lunch they are perfect.

  86. avatar
    M Says:

A red pepper hummus and sprout sandwich on whole grain bread, Cheddar Tilla-Moos, sesame crackers, no sugar added cranberry juice and a sugar free macadamia blondie brownie

  87. avatar
    Rodney Hoffman Says:

Cheese and crackers! Easy, healthy, delicious. Usually a wrapped string cheese stick and 4 Triscuit crackers. But when other forms of cheese or other crackers are available, that’s good, too.

  88. avatar
    Ciarra DiPiazza Says:

We called it the Peasant lunch: Hunk of rustic bread, apple and a hunk of cheddar!!! YUM!

    Halli Simpson Says:

Just yesterday I tested out a new “non traditional” kind of lunch box meal for my husband. I baked eggs in a greased muffin tin (poke the yolk) for 20 minutes at 350 deg. and then some bacon for about 12 minutes, I toasted some whole grain English muffins and shredded some Tillamook mild cheddar cheese and when every thing cooled I put together some breakfast sandwiches and wrapped them up individually so I could just pull one out of the freezer when needed. This works well for my hubby since he has a heated/cooled lunch box that plugs into his trucks outlet. A good idea for those who don’t have a heated lunch box is to make a BLT with some cheese. Yummy!

    Maribeth Watt Says:

We grew up always making our own lunches which usually consisted of a peanut butter jelly sandwich, a bag of lays’s potato chips, and an apple. BUT it was a real treat when my mother would buy a bag of the single string cheese servings and I would secretly put two in my lunch bag. It was so much fun pulling apart the cheese into little strings and trying to make the single serving last as long as possible :)

I cut up fruit into a Tupperware bowl the just cover the fruit with jello. My family loves it, and the fruit doesn’t get mushed or brown before lunch. :)

My youngest daughter started kindergarten this year, so to help her learn her letters and sounds I use the cheese slices and cut letters in them. Then she can put them together to spell a word, and she loves it! And the leftovers from carving I throw on my grilled cheese for lunch. No waste, just satisfaction all around. :)

    Tarri Christopher Says:

When my three children were in school (they are young adults now) I always packed their lunches because I felt it was the healthiest alternative for them. I also loved being creative. They always got a slice of Tillamook cheese with their veggies, fruit and sandwiches. The highlight of the week, though, was the mystery day when I would add something special. I rotated the days so that they were excited to open their box each day. Their favorite treats? Once I made a tic-tac-toe set for each of them out of cheese! I used cookie cutters and made the O’s with cheddar cheese and the X’s with monterey jack. Another time I made each of their names (Tara, Joshua, and Kaci Rae) cut out of cheese. I put each name on a tortilla with turkey slices and they rolled it up.

It was fun to hear their stories about lunch (and school!) when they came home on those special lunch days.

My oldest just started first grade. Today his lunch includes homemade banana bread, blueberry yogurt, a plum (and a napkin!) and a homemade granola bar. Four of his “favorites”. :) Healthy food is a primary goal for me this year as I’m packing his lunches, but I also want it to be food that he’ll enjoy eating.

    Gina Says:

My littles aren’t in school yet (one is starting preschool, but only 1/2 days), but I do my best to put together a healthy lunch that my super picky eaters will munch on. The only cheese my 3-year-old son wants is “orange square cheese” (sliced from a loaf of medium cheddar Tillamook). If I ever cheat and buy the store brand cheese, because it’s on sale, he turns his nose up. He loves turkey and cheddar “dinosaur” sandwiches (cut out with dino sandwich cutter) on wheat bread. We also do lots of organic yogurt tubes, cut raw veggies with tomato basil hummus, raisins and dried fruits, or organic fruit pouches. For special treats, a big slice of homemade zucchini bread or a blueberry bran muffin topped with a swipe of Tillamook butter. Yum!

My favorite is to pack a small cooler and my two Dogs, (Peanut & Cashew) Put in my lunchbox a small salad, some tillamook cheese and of course some peanut & cashew nuts.

I would make my son’s and my daughter’s lunch for school and painstainkly make homemade chocolate chip cookies and put them in ther lunch boxes. They had a sandwich usually PB&J or sometimes bologna, a bag of lunch chips and some kind of fruit. My daughter would usually eat pretty much everything but my son was so picky and I made his lunch the way he likes things but he would bring his lunch box home set it on the counter and off he went – well when I opened the box half the sandwich was there with the fruit but the chips and the cookies were gone yet at home he did not eat the cookies all that much so I began to wonder well come to find out he was selling the cookies!!

To “wrap” up lunch easiy and deliciously, take a wheat tortilla and spread it lightly with any type of condiment (ranch, mustard, salsa, etc.). Then spread a thin layer of roast beef, ham or turkey over the condiment and add a good handful of Tillamook Cheddar Cheese over the meat. If you like, some shredded lettuce or sliced cucumbers add a refreshing crunch. Roll up “burrito style”, folding the sides in. Slice in half on the diagonal, or into pinwheels for smaller appetites and place in zipper bags.

As an added healthy side for lunch (or the trip home), put apple or pear slices and Tillamoos together in a zipper bag. Keep some extras in the fridge for “on-the-go” snacks, because his quick treat will satisfy kids and adults of all ages!

My friends and I used to go on very long bike rides on the weekends sometimes camping over one night when we were 14-17. We used to pool our money and hit the grocery store and but the fixens for snack lunches. One of our favorites was Hawaiian Sweet Bread rolls, Tillamook cheese and some kind of fresh deli meat.

One of the ways today I try to make lunches better is to use olive oil based light mayonnaise, or Avocado, Low Sodium Turkey, mustard but still some Tillamook cheese on double protein high fiber bread. Its low in sugars and carbs high in protein, vitamins and fiber and still tastes good.

    Bev Says:

From the time I could eat solid food, my favorite for lunches was passed to me by my grandfather, Tillamook slices and apple slices, Tillamook sandwiches, Tillamook macaroni and cheese, Tillamook and warm apple pie, Tillamook medium, Tillamook sharp, basically Tillamook as it’s own food group. I’ve passed my love for Tillamook to my kids and grandkids. So much so that when my daughter was in the Army in Kentucky, pregnant and craving Tillamook (none available in Kentucky) I sent her Tillamook cheese and Tillamook ice cream for her birthday (shipping cost 4 times more than the cheese and ice cream) by overnight UPS with dry ice. Still dedicated to Tillamook today and now stationed in Georgia (still no Tillamook available) when my daughter drove to Oregon to pick her kids up at the end of their summer visit last month, she brought an ice chest filled with almost $100 (almost 25 pounds) of Tillamook cheese back with her. Needless to say, it’s being rationed out so that it will last!

Dad used to fish & hunt so we made use of that all year long. I liked having a 1/2 deermeat sausage sandwich with mustard, slice of cheese and then crushing ridged potato chips in between. Then an apple for dessert. Another lunch was a piece of smoked salmon, a piece of cheese and cut up veggies.

Today I try to eat healthier and love to have leftover crustless broccoli or asperagus quiche – which of course includes low fat Tillamook cheese and some fruit.

Kymy ~ Everything Your Mama Made & More! Says:

As a kid who went to school in the 90′s my favorite treat for lunch was one of those ‘fancy’ lunchables!

Now that I have 4 of my own kids I am 1.) to cheap to buy them and 2.) they have WAY to much sodium & preservatives in them! With a 1st grade son & 4yr old twin girls in preschool we make a lot of lunches around here.

One of their (and mine) favorite lunches is our own version of a lunchable! I got cute little Bento boxes for them & I will include unwrapped Tillamook singles or cut up slices of Tillamook cheese, small slices of cut up ham or turkey breast (we get all our ham, turkey & cheese from costco) along with Ritz crakers. Then we toss some frozen grapes, carrots, a 100% juice juice box and some sort of home made goodie for a treat like mini chocolate banana breads :).

The frozen grapes soften up by lunch time (my kids actually like them still mostly frozen too!) and help keep everything warm. So not only do they have a nice balanced meal, but it’s tasty to! Another thing I love to do with the meat & cheese for our homemade lunchables as well as our sandwiches is we use cookie cutters & bento sandwich cutters to cut them into fun & unique shapes! Last year my son was in kindergarten & his teacher told me she loved seeing what he brought each day!

    Ashley Su Says:

When I was a kid, my favorite lunch would be LUNCHABLES. I loved the nacho lunchable and the make-your-own pizza lunchable. In the lunchables also contained a capri-sun, a snack, and sometimes a toy. I WOULD BE GREAT. I would also bring along a side of fruit slices, string cheese, and a water bottle. After lunchables, I think a grilled cheese sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, roasted pastrami would be the next best lunch. But with lunches and lunchboxes, I just want to say that I love cheese, especially Tillamook Loafs. When the Baby Loaf Buses went on tours across the country, one stopped by my local neighborhood store. I tried a couple samples and was pulled in to the heavenly taste. I would put it on everything, sandwiches, salad, soup, bread, noodles, pasta, etc. :)

    Erin Says:

The kids love when I make grilled cheese sandwiches, using Tillamook Pepper Jack and Tillamook Cheddar! I make them in the morning, cut them into 4 slices and put them in their thermos. At lunch they are still warm and gooey! My daughter says the other kids try to trade their sandwich for hers! LOL.

My 7 year old son is smart and does not like school lunches here in ID. Instead, we buy tillamook yogurt to put in his lunch. Some days he wants both yogurt and Moo’s. My husband loves when I have gone to CostCo. It is the only place we can find the bag of Moos put put in his lunches. They both like to have one and then come up with new things to pair it with. Like Turkey pepperoni slices, green apple slices, celery stalks, etc.

When it turn’s cold out side, just warm them up. Have some Taco Chili w/grated cheddar and jack cheese and for some real comfort a piece of cornbread w/Tillamook’s sweet cream butter, and I could go on and on, Maybe some old fashioned baked mac’n cheese yummmmmmmmmm! We love Tillamook!!!!

Tillamoos go in everyone’s lunch box from my kids to my husband. Sometimes I am scrambling to keep them on hand because they are so loved. I prefer buying the 50 count bag at Costco but it is not always available. We also pack everything from fruit bowls to chicken noodle soup. I try to keep lunch fun and nutritious and delicious. I get in big trouble if I ever try to substitute the Tillamoos with other cheese.

If the kids are tired of eating sandwiches, they get cheese slices and crackers!

Tilla-Moos are fantastic. I live in Alaska and during our long winter the kids take Moose chili to school, microwave and then crumble the Tilla-Moos on top. I always put in extra because Tilla-Moos are high value in the lunch room trade, I don’t have to bake chocolate chips cookies because a Tilla-Moo can be traded for one. Thank you for making my life easier in the kitchen.

My twin 6-yr old girls love taking their lunches to school and every day I always draw them each a picture on their lunch bag. If I forget to draw the picture, they sure remind me! One of the girls loves taking string cheese because she’ll pull the cheese apart into a million different pictures and make a picture out of it. My other girl loves a cheese quesadilla and having it cut up into pieces that spell her name. My girls are great though and also love their fruits and veggies, especially cut up cucumber….one of their favorite things is when we cut up vegetables into pieces that can be used as noses, eyes, etc. so that when they are at school for lunch, they can use the pieces to make faces!

Sad to say she is off to middle school this year and the notes will probably stop but I will still sneak in a little surprise to make her smile! I think the best part about packing your child’s lunch is that it is filled with love no matter a plain PB and J or a fancy wrap they love the comfort of knowing it came from home.

Our youngest just got appliances in addition to braces, so we’re having to revamp his lunches (nothing crunchy -there goes the pretzels and raw fruits/veggies, nothing sticky or gooey – no soynut butter and jelly).
