How Now Brown Cow?

Many of us grew up with Tillamook Brown Cow Ice Cream. We remember the show-stopping flurry of chocolate flakes surrounded by both white chocolate and milk chocolate ice cream… Well, you’ll be happy to know that Tillamook Brown Cow Ice Cream is still here, just under a new name: Tillamook Udderly Chocolate Ice Cream! It’s made with the exact same recipe; the only thing that’s different is the name. We voluntarily changed the name in January 2005 because we learned that it was already in use by another company. We figured as long as it tasted the same, what’s the harm in calling it something different?

    My dearest Brown Cow,

You will certainly remain so always and forever in my heat. Why this unnamed “other company” has taken this offense against you, I do not know. I have to say, I think there was a horrible mistake made in your renaming… “Udderly Chocolate”? A fool would get the pun… But should we? It seems to bring unpleasant images to mind when all I am trying to do is enjoy a bowl of my favorite ice cream. But alas… we can’t have it all and as they say, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet.”

    Tillamook, I love you still.

    Yours truly,
    Rebecca
