Memorial Day Sundae Bar

Tillamook Sticky Bun Ice Cream Sundae - A fun (and delicious) Memorial Day weekend treat!

Last year, a friend introduced me to Tillamook Sticky Bun Ice Cream. My freezer now has a special place reserved just for this amazingly tasty gallon of ice cream. It tastes like the middles of sticky buns all mixed inside Tillamook’s already delicious ice cream! I get giddy just thinking about it.

Tillamook Sticky Bun Ice Cream

I knew the kids would love making their own sundaes (as would I!) so I assembled all the toppings and grabbed my favorite Sticky Bun Ice Cream from its place of honor in the freezer and let them have at it.

Toppings: cherries, whipped cream, caramel sauce, candied pecans, and rolled wafers

By the time they finished sampling the toppings, and then adding a ridiculous amount to their own dishes, the ice cream had almost completely melted but they didn’t mind. They loved their “ice cream soup”.

My daughter enjoying her sundae!

I’d love to hear your ideas for other toppings for Sticky Bun Ice Cream, and also other topping/ice cream combos with your favorite Tillamook ice cream. A friend suggested caramelized bananas which would be incredible with Sticky Bun Ice Cream! So stock up your sundae bar for the weekend.  It will be sure to put a cherry on top of your Memorial Day celebration.

“Cheese-ter” Bunnies

"Cheese-ter" Bunnies

Easter is just around the corner, so before your kids fill up on jellybeans and chocolate bunnies, here is an easy, fun, healthy, and delicious snack for you to make with them.  They will love making it almost as much as they love eating it!

Supplies: bunny cookie cutter
Ingredients: Tillamook Sliced Medium Cheddar Cheese, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, carrots, etc.

Supplies & Ingredients

Steps:
1. Cut the carrots into matchstick shapes for the bunny whiskers.
2. Have the kids cut the bunny shapes into the cheese slices.  (Snatch up the cheese trimmings and eat these yourself when no one is looking.)
3. Assemble the bunny faces.  I just used items I found in my pantry and fridge.  I’m using dried cranberries for noses, sunflower seeds for eyes and teeth, and carrots for whiskers.  You could use grapes, apples, cheerios, celery, etc.  Get creative!
4. Take a photo of your kids saying “Cheeeese!” with their finished creations.
5. Eat and enjoy!

Mom Bloggers Get Cookin’ in Orange County

What a perfect day for a grilled cheese cook-off – Mom blogger style!

Got my grilled cheese and a toy - what more do I need?

Tillamook and the Loaf Love Tour invited local Orange County and Los Angeles Mom bloggers, as well as their families, for a special day of Loaf Love family fun on March 27th.  The day included face painting, balloon animals, frisbee, a special appearance from Loafy (who was a big hit with the kids!), and a good old-fashioned grilled cheese competition.

The kids battle Loafy (good thing those swords are made of balloons!)

The stakes were high (Grand Prize – a Tillamook Cookbook and a year’s supply of Tillamook Cheese) and the competition was fierce (10 of the OC’s top Mom Blogs) this weekend at Costa Mesa’s Tewinkle Park. Moms brought reinforcements (husbands, little ones, and even grandparents)  to help them choose a variety of accoutrements (asparagus, Tillamook Pepper Jack, Tillamook Medium Cheddar, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, banana peppers, zucchini, bell peppers, Tillamook Sharp Cheddar, pesto, bacon…) that combine perfectly to create the tastiest grilled cheese sandwiches. And boy oh boy, did these families deliver!

The ingredients table - getting creative!

Top winners:

Best Teamwork – Shelby Barone from OCMoms.com and her adorable family won for the variety of sandwiches they created such as “Tomato Love”, “Trees of Love”, “Surprise Sandwich” and the “Plain Jane”.

Best Teamwork Award - Shelby's family members

Most Creative – Priscilla Willis from She’s Cookin’ won for her inspired sandwich the “Spring Fever”.

Most Creative Award Winner

Best overall – This coveted prize went to Kristen Howerton of Rage Against the MiniVan. Kristen has her husband Mark to thank for the year’s supply of Tillamook Cheese. The Howerton family won the prize with his “So-Cal Delight”. They also get the prize for most excited to receive a prize!

Best Overall Award - Kristen's husband Mark

Honorable mention goes out to:

Angela Bishop of Nine More Months, Caryn Bailey of Rockin’ Mama, Jenny Klein of 3 Before 30, Resa Michelle of Making Geek Look Good, and Marcie Taylor of Suburban Mamas.

HUGE thanks to everyone for coming out and spending a sunny Sunday with us here at Tillamook Cheese! We so enjoyed meeting you and sharing some delicious grilled cheeses. See you again soon!

Aww... too many cute kid moments to count!

The Mystery of the Bite-Marked Loaf

I was recently looking through the photos that our fans share with us on our Facebook page. Some of them are absolutely hilarious, like the above photo. It’s even funnier when you know the back story. Here’s what fan LoriAnn G. told us about her mysteriously bite-marked loaf:

I told my two year old daughter that she could NOT have anymore cheese. She would literally eat it all day if I let her. I took the cheese and put it back in the fridge. The next time I was in my fridge I saw this… She was determined to bite strait through the plastic to get to her favorite cheese. Good thing the plastic was strong enough to keep her out!

That kid has some serious cheese determination… or maybe she’s just teething? Either way, she has excellent taste in dairy products!

Kids Love Tillamook Ice Cream!

Aren’t these kids absolutely adorable? I just love the little guy who says of Tillamook Ice Cream: ”I even like it for dessert” and “I like it… really much.” Too much cute for one video! Another fun note about this Tillamook Ice Cream commercial: The kids aren’t actors –  just real kids who really love Tillamook Ice Cream. We held a casting call on our Facebook page for this commercial (and two others), and many of our Facebook fans showed up with their kids. And we’re so glad they did! This commercial makes me ooo, awww, and smile every time I see it.
