Welcome to Sunny California!

Golden Gate

What a view!

Well it’s that time of the year when the Loaf Love Tour comes to the beautiful state of California. This is our last state on the tour, and our first time being in the Pacific time zone. After being in Arizona, Texas, Colorado, and Utah the last six months, I must admit that it feels good to be this close to Oregon. It was an interesting road trip to get here: I bought $20 worth of snacks (I devoured them all, of course) and all the lanes on the freeway were closed because of construction, which led to hours of sitting in traffic and we arrived to 100+ degree temperatures in Sacramento. Other than that, the trip was uneventful.

Our three month trip through California will bring us to several different cities, including Sacramento, San Francisco, L.A., Orange County, and San Diego. I’m looking forward to San Francisco the most, not just because it’ll be a break in the 100+ heat the Loaf Love Tour has been experience for months now, but mostly because we’ll get a chance to breathe in the salty air of the Pacific Ocean again. It’s not quite the salty cow smell of Tillamook, but it’ll do. I can picture it now: driving the Loafster across the Golden Gate Bridge, my hair blowing in the wind while music plays on the radio (okay, you probably know our Yums don’t have radios, but maybe I can convince another Brand Ambassador to sing for me?). Perfection.

Mountain and Central time zones have been great. I hope you’re ready for us California. Check out where we’ll be on the tour schedule.

As always, stay cheesy!

Loafing Around East Bay

The Loaf Love Tour Team - ready to explore East Bay!

As a Loaf Love Tour Brand Ambassador, I always look forward to a “Day of Loaf.” I mean, what’s better than taking a whole day just to cruise the streets of a new city and take photos of memorable sights along the way… all while riding in style in the most adorable little Volkswagens anyone has ever seen?! We chat with pedestrians at stop lights about who we are, and we get to make Tillamook lovers happy by handing out coupons and cute buttons, too! Sometimes I just can’t quite believe these are the requirements of my job – I love it!

The Baby Loaf buses at Jack London Square

This last Monday, we explored the streets in San Francisco’s East Bay! With the overcast weather reminding me of my Oregon roots, off we went! All three of our VW Baby Loaf buseswent around Oakland, Alameda, and Berkeley, California! We cruised along the Bay in Alameda, went through downtown Oakland, and got plenty of stares as we stopped at Jack London Square for a photo. It always tickles me when I see how amazed onlookers seem when they notice not one, but three little buses made to look like a loaf of cheese! The extra big smiles we get are some of my favorite parts of being on the Loaf Love Tour.

Cruising around Oakland

After a yummy lunch and quick drive through UC Berkeley, we wrapped up another fun Day of Loaf! I’m already anticipating the next one coming up in Sacramento later this month!

See you on the road,

-Noelle, Loaf Love Tour Brand Ambassador

Lions and Tigers and… Cheese!

The Tillamook Cheese Loaf Love Tour has arrived in Northern California!

Last Saturday, our Loaf Love Tour team spent a fun-filled day at the San Francisco Zoo. We met some cheesetastically awesome families while we sampled our award-winning cheeses.

The first 100 Tillamook fans who came to the zoo dressed in their wildest and brightest Tillamook orange received free entry into the zoo. Tickets were gone in a hurry! It was amazing to see all the Tillamook “Loaf Love” and enthusiasm for our cheese.

Lola's grandson made her this "Colby Jack" shirt so she could sport her Loaf Love and get into the zoo for free!

San Francisco Giants fans didn't have a problem finding orange in their closets. What a couple of cuties!

Our mascot Loafy spotted all kinds of exotic animals.

The giraffe is thinking "Can I eat it?"

The Loaf Love Tour will be wheeling around Northern California until August 14. See if they’re headed to a town near you… hope to see you on the road!

That’s Punny

At The AMERICAN Grilled Cheese Kitchen, there is a well-used chalkboard hanging over their magical sandwich-making kitchen. Like The AMERICAN, we here at Tillamook shamelessly love a good cheesy pun. To add a few to the board:

Just wheying in with my opinion.
That’s whey over my head.
Don’t string me along.
You’re making an asagio of yourself.

Got any gouda ones to add?

Behind the Scenes at The AMERICAN

Heidi preparing to shoot a recipe video for Tillamook.com

I’ve been hearing about Heidi Gibson for a long time now… Grilled Cheese Invitational ringer with loads of tasty trophies, tech professional who gave it all up to open a restaurant dedicated to grilled cheese. She even has a dog named Tilly that she rescued after finding her wandering the streets! These are the stories that passionate heroes are made of.  So it was my sincere pleasure to go behind the scenes on the video recipe shoot Heidi created with Tillamook.

Heidi in the kitchen at The AMERICAN Grilled Cheese Kitchen

First of all, we had her restaurant, The AMERICAN Grilled Cheese Kitchen, all to ourselves on a Sunday morning. You should have smelled the delicious onions caramelizing, cheese melting, and strata baking. It was amazing. I’ve also never eaten so much grilled cheese in my life (we photographed tons of sandwiches and we HAD to taste everything after all!). YUM.

Our spread of yummy sandwiches - all amazing!

I also loved talking to Heidi in between shoots. I could have talked her ear off, but one thing that really stuck with me was how well she knew each of the food items she used in her sandwiches. Each ingredient in her recipes came from a carefully chosen partner who shares her values around food and sustainable business – from her bread to her meat to her beverages.  Here at Tillamook, we feel truly honored to be counted amongst her partners.  Thanks, Heidi! We think you’re whey cool!
