Spring Break at the Cheese Factory

What are you doing for Spring Break this year? If you’re thinking of taking a little vacation, you should take a drive to the Tillamook Cheese Factory!

• Drive over to Cape Meares for a view of the ocean. While you’re there, check out the lighthouse, see some huge Spruce Trees (seriously), or even walk down to the rocky beach.

• Stock up on Squeaky Cheese – it’s only available at the Cheese Factory!

• Swing by a surprising little gem in Tillamook – the Tillamook County Pioneer Museum! There you can learn a little about Tillamook County’s history and see over 35,000 historic artifacts gathered from Tillamook pioneers.

• Enjoy a free, self-guided tour where you can watch our cheese making and packaging operations and try free samples of Tillamook Cheese. Don’t forget to round it off with a scoop of Tillamook Ice Cream!

Before your trip, take a look at our special offers at the Cheese Factory – if you plan it right, you might get yourself some tasty opportunities (waffle sandwiches, anyone?). We hope you come to visit us at the Tillamook Cheese Factory!

Photos from the Road: Loaf Love in San Diego

I recently joined the Loaf Love Tour in San Diego to close out this year’s tour. Here’s a photo diary of the spaces and places I saw on the road.

I knew I arrived in beautiful San Diego when I saw this:

On Saturday, I joined the team at the San Diego Zoo, which looked like this:

At the end of a long day full of cheese sampling and smile sticks, we relaxed at Keegan Gerhard’s restaurant D Bar, where I ate this:

After an amazing experience watching the tour in action, I was sad to say goodbye to this:

‘Tis the Season For Traveling…with Cheese!

Just because you’re traveling this season doesn’t mean you have to leave your Tillamook Cheese at home!

Obviously, the best way to ensure your cheese makes it to your destination intact would be to pack it on ice and transport it in a cooler! But if that isn’t an option, here are some other tips for traveling with your favorite loaf:

Traveling by car:

Keep your cheese in its original wrapper and place it in the coolest, darkest part of your car – not in the trunk. Make sure putting your cheese in the refrigerator at your final destination is your top priority. Trust me; your family will forgive you for running past them on your way to the refrigerator once they taste this delicious cheese! (Disclaimer: This option won’t work if you are planning a several day road trip!)

Traveling by plane:

Keep your cheese refrigerated, or on ice, until departure for the airport. Wrap the cheese in a bag and place it in your suitcase. Ice is not needed as it will be fine for one day of air travel and stay cool in the baggage compartment of the plane. Unless you’re willing to share your Tillamook Cheese with airport security, don’t carry it on with you, it will likely be confiscated.

You can also ship your cheese to your destination ahead of time.

Are you planning on traveling with Tillamook Cheese this holiday? Where are ya going?!

Safe travels!

It’s Always Stormy in Tillamook

It’s Always Stormy in Tillamook is the name of the latest musical EP from a lovely group called Meg & Dia, who fueled their lyrical creations with Tillamook Cheese while renting a house in Tillamook. But it’s also a rather intriguing invitation to visit our little town of Tillamook on the Oregon Coast. Yes it’s stormy right now, but what a spectacular site! Green moss coats prehistoric forests on your drive out to the coast along HWY 6, raging storms whip up the ocean and beat rain against our coastal cliffs, and dramatic waves show you exactly how Haystack Rock got carved over so many years ago. My favorite part about the Oregon Coast is that no matter what time of year, there is always something amazing to see.

After your visit to the Tillamook Cheese Factory, cozy up in a B&B or the great room of a hotel with BIG windows and watch the show.

For those of you who have made it to the Oregon Coast during winter, what are your favorite things to see? Where are your favorite places to stay?
