COMMUNITY

Dive in and explore what's happening in our community!

For those of us who always have a nice warm meal waiting for us at the end of the day or a baby loaf (or two!) of tasty Tillamook Cheese sitting in the fridge, the idea of standing in line to receive an emergency food box is pretty hard to imagine. But the fact is, hunger has reached an all-time high in the U.S., and more families are seeking emergency food services more than ever before. Here in our home state, we know that 1 in 5 Oregonians struggle with hunger, and one-third of those that receive food boxes from local food banks are children. These numbers are pretty alarming, especially when you consider that many of these people who are struggling to put food on their table each day might be your neighbors, co-workers and friends.

As a food producer and community leader, we at Tillamook feel it is our responsibility to help make a difference in the lives of people who are fighting hunger every day. That’s why we are proud for the ninth year in a row to support the KGW Great Food Drive, an incredibly valuable public service campaign here in Oregon that helps bring the community together to fight this serious issue of hunger.

During the month of March, we will be donating a portion of proceeds from any size or variety of Tillamook Cheese sold at stores throughout Oregon and SW Washington to the Great Food Drive, which supports the Oregon Food Bank. So, anytime you buy your favorite Tillamook Cheese in March, you’ll be helping us support people in need in our community. A great reason to stock the fridge this month!

  • The Great Food Drive will kick-off with a fun event this Friday, March 6 at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland – the Annual Tillamook Cheese Omelet Breakfast. Stop by the Square between 6 and 9am with a non-perishable food or cash donation for the Oregon Food Bank, and enjoy a complimentary Tillamook Cheese Omelet. As an added bonus, we will also be providing samples of our new Tillamook Farmstyle Greek Yogurt to anyone that stops by with a donation for the Oregon Food Bank. And, to make the event even more fun, one of our mini baby-loaf buses and our Farmstyle Greek Yogurt truck will be onsite to spread the Tillamook love (or loaf!). We hope you’ll come by to visit us.

Also – throughout March, we will be collecting donations at our Tillamook Cheese Factory Visitor Center in support of the Great Food Drive. So, if you stop by to visit us on the coast, you’ll also have a chance to help us make a difference for those struggling with hunger. And, on Wednesday, March 18, we’ll have a special visitor at the Tillamook Cheese Factory, when KGW’s own Drew Carney comes to broadcast live for the Newschannel 8 at Sunrise Show and the Noon Show. Stay tuned for details on a special chance to join Drew for breakfast that morning at the Tillamook Cheese Factory!

Last year the Great Food Drive campaign raised more than 856,000 of food for the Oregon Food Bank, which was enough to provide nearly 685,000 meals to those in need in our communities. Working together as a community, we hope to raise even more food and funds this year, so that we can continue to combat this serious issue. We hope you’ll join us!

For the last several years, the Great Food Drive has advertised that Tillamook contributes a portion of the proceeds. What does this mean? How much was contributed last year? What percentage of each purchase is contributed?

Thanks for supporting this worthy endeavor. We love the product.

Tillamook Team

Hi there. Thanks for reaching out to us with your question. The specific amount varies year by year, but generally we commit to donating up to $30,000 from our cheese sales in Oregon and SW Washington each year through the KGW Great Food Drive. We’re very proud to have been able to donate nearly $250,000 to the Oregon Food Bank through our Great Food Drive efforts over the years, which is actually just a small portion of the funds, dairy products and volunteer hours we donate to the Oregon Food Bank throughout the year as part of our ongoing partnership with them. Thanks for reaching out with your question and for helping us support this important cause!

All the best,
Amalya of the Tillamook team
