Culinary creator Maxine Sharf shares her go-to spring appetizer, crostini topped with caramelized onions and Tillamook Farmstyle Sharp Cheddar Slices. Crispy, cheesy, and perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Onions:
2 lb sweet onions, sliced in thin strips
1⁄2tsp Kosher salt
1⁄4tsp fresh ground black pepper
Crostini:
2 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp Tillamook Sea Salted Extra Creamy Butter, melted
1 baguette, sliced in 1⁄2”rounds
1 (8oz) package of Tillamook Farmstyle Sharp Cheddar Slices, sliced in quarters
Sliced fresh chives, for garnish
Caramelize the onions: In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, tender and caramelized, 45-55 mins. Transfer the onions to a medium bowl.
Preheat the oven to 425F.
Make the crostini: Coat a large sheet pan with the olive oil and melted better. Working with one baguette round at a time, spread a layer of caramelized onion on top and place on the prepared sheet pan. Rub the underside of the bread in the oil/butter to ensure it is nicely coated. Leave a sliver of space between each.
Place one quarter slice of Tillamook Farmstyle Sharp Cheddar on each baguette round. Bake 12-15 mins until the underside of the crostini are golden brown and crispy and the cheese is melted.
Let cool for 5 mins, then serve with sliced chives on top for garnish and enjoy!
