Ingredients
Directions
  • Step 1

    Preheat oven to 400°F.

  • Step 2

Boil water, then add pasta and cook until al dente while making cheese sauce.

  • Step 3

In a pot over medium-low heat, melt butter with bacon, then add flour to make a roux.

  • Step 4

To complete the roux, cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until roux thickens and lets off a nutty aroma. The roux should be a golden blond color.

  • Step 5

Slowly pour in milk and simmer until thickened, being sure to stir constantly.

  • Step 6

Take off the heat, then fold in cheddar until melted slightly. Add macaroni.

  • Step 7

Pour into a 9x9 inch baking dish and top with remaining ½ cup shredded cheddar and bread crumbs. Bake at 400°F until golden brown (about 10-12 minutes).
